Client Name: Todd and Amanda
Patient Name:Oreo

“Oreo came to us in November 2023 with an inability to walk with his rear limbs. We fit him for a cart so he could have some independent mobility and we started working on making sure his front limbs stayed in good shape. A year later and Oreo continues to thrive in his cart!”

Brief History of Pet

We adopted Oreo from the Will County Humane Society in 2014. They claimed he was one year old, but we think he was still a puppy because our neighbors said that he grew a bit! We picked him because he was the only dog who came immediately when we called. We knew then that he was meant to come with our family!

Why VSMR?

Oreo needs rehabilitation because he has IVDD and requires a wheelchair to get around. We find that the rehabilitation helps with his mobility and pain management. We chose VSMRHG for Oreo because of their specialized expertise in handling cases like his, specifically with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). The team is highly skilled in rehabilitation and sports medicine, making it ideal to support Oreo through his rehabilitation. Their close collaboration with Oreo’s primary care vet has allowed for a personalized treatment plan that focuses on managing his pain and improving his mobility, which was exactly what he needed.

Favorite Motivator

Oreo loves his cookies after his acupuncture treatment.

“Oreo is such a good boy and once he got his wheels, nothing could stop him! He has been enjoying his mobility, coming in to visit for treatment on his elbows to keep him speeding around as much as he wants!”

Addition Information:

There are many special memories with Oreo, but our favorites are the trips we’ve taken with him. Oreo has been to New Orleans for our daughter’s 21st birthday. He has witnessed important milestones in her life, like passing her driver’s test, attending her first high school dance, and graduating from high school, so it was only fitting that he join us for this trip as well. The hotel staff even gave Oreo his own bowl, toys, and flashlight. He had just as much fun in New Orleans as our daughter did. Oreo has also been to Utah several times to visit our daughter when she was in college there. He loves visiting family and going on road trips. He’s very adventurous! Oreo loves to sing. If you howl, he will join you in song! Oreo’s favorite snack is popcorn. He gets really excited when he hears the microwave popping.
