Client Name: Camille Yario
Patient Name: Mylee
Brief History of Pet:
Mylee was born in April 2009 in Kenosha, WI. It’s believed she is a Pit and Labrador mix, although I like to say that only her parents know for sure! Her first owner had other small dogs so as Mylee grew bigger it became evident that she was going to have more energy and need plenty of exercise so she was rehomed. The same thing happened at her next owners. She ended up at my sister’s (who already had a large dog herself) so she wasn’t sure Mylee was going to be a permanent pet. My husband and I had been promising our younger son a dog when his older brother went off to college in the fall of 2010. I had never had a dog as a pet (only cats), so I wasn’t 100 percent on board with the idea. Once meeting Mylee, and seeing how gentle and sweet she was, convinced me this was the dog for our family. Luckily, all the homes she lived in had other dogs or cats so she was socialized early and gets along with pretty much every animal (and human) she’s ever met!
Why VSMR?
n fall of 2021, I noticed Mylee starting to drag one of her hind legs. Thinking it was simply arthritis, I mentioned it at her yearly well visit and her vet suggested taking her to VSMR Homer Glen for a diagnosis. Unfortunately, further testing came back positive for Degenerative Myelopathy. After meeting with Dr. Amber Ihrke and her staff, they came up with a treatment plan for Mylee which has included Hydrotherapy, Therapeutic Laser/Massage, Acupuncture, as well as Mylee being fitted for her own cart!
Favorite Motivator
Mylee’s favorite motivators are peanut butter and liver treats. She’s also big a fan of turkey breast.
How VSMR has helped Mylee:
Mylee has been a patient with VSMR Homer Glen for over a year now. While the progression of the disease cannot be prevented, the weekly treatments have kept Mylee as stable as possible. She still has strength in her front legs, so she is able to move herself in her cart and enjoy short walks. Working with Katherine Holich has been wonderful, treating Mylee like her very own. I feel it’s a direct result of Katherine’s skill as a rehabilitation technician that has kept Mylee in our lives (she’s now 13 ½ yearsold) and given Mylee what I feel is an excellent quality of life. Thank you Kat and all the staff at VSMR Homer Glen!
Additional Information
Mylee enjoys the outdoors, car rides, and belly scratches. She is a vital member of the Yario family and we are so lucky to have her in our lives!
